Monster Pawn was started in 2001 by long time Bloomington resident and pawn industry veteran Edwin Pierce, along with his wife, Kathy, and brother, Mark. By focusing on providing great deals and quality merchandise in a comfortable, relaxed and professional atmosphere, and relying on Ed’s many years of experience, Monster Pawn has quickly grown to become downstate Illinois’ most successful pawn shop.

In 2003, the operation was expanded to include an eBay store (MONSTER-DEALS ) and a sister buy-sell-trade store, Monster Deals, providing a larger retail outlet. as well as a second location in Normal, Illinois. A third location was added in Springfield in late 2011, Illinois, and the entire operation currently employs 25 full-timers and numerous part-timers.

While the employees are knowledgeable in many areas and the selection of products covers a huge spectrum, a good number on staff are working musicians – including the owner – so as expected, there’s a strong focus on musical gear. From beginner to pro level, and both modern and vintage, Edwin and the staff are always on the lookout for killer gear, and the store itself is turning into a museum of sorts for vintage and rare guitars and amplifiers. And there are thousands of other items in stock: hand tools, video games, jewelry, CDs, DVDs, car audio, TVs, computers…the list goes on.
